One of the keys to loving your job is understanding God's plan for you and for work itself.
God created work before the fall of man. It is inherently good and essential to the world running smoothly. Our Lord intended for every person to contribute to society in one way or another.
Work takes care of others. Just like the barista in the picture accompanying this article, real people are depending on you to do your job well. What a tremendous bonus if you can reflect God's love, joy and peace in the process. It's easy to see that the young woman enjoys making delectable drinks for her eager clientele.
"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:19). Just as God expertly created each of us for good works, we can find motivation each day to produce excellent work. The key is to find what you are passionate about and find a job that satisfies those passions while adding value to the lives of others. By linking your interests to God's plan for work, you can develop and use skills that fulfill God's special intent for your life.
Autopilot: Our Enemy
Many people go through life on autopilot. They do the work in front of them with little thought or joy. Perhaps the mindset is that work is work. I have to pay the bills, so here I sit doing this job I don't like. God blesses adherence to His principles, but there are many instances in Scripture where he specially blesses those who put their whole heart into His plan. Noah, the Apostle Paul, David, Solomon, John the Beloved, Mary Magdalene are just a few. Don't merely exist on autopilot, learn to enthusiastically live out God's plan for your life.
